Cards, not slides
Gamma's core idea is that a card grows to fit its content, where a slide forces content to fit the box. Most Gamma frustration comes from bringing slide habits to a card tool.
One-prompt drafts
Describe the deck, pick a card count and theme, and Gamma writes and lays out a complete draft. The quality of your one paragraph in decides most of the quality out. It is a first-draft generator, not a finisher.
Flexible containers
Cards stretch vertically, nest content blocks, and reorder by drag. Because nothing overflows, you restructure by moving ideas around, not by shrinking fonts at midnight.
Per-card revisions
Select a card and tell the AI to shorten it, change its tone, or add a visual. Edits stay scoped to that card, so you polish one at a time the way you would edit paragraphs in an essay.
What you will do in the lesson
You answer and try things. Nobody demonstrates at you for five minutes.
- Write the generation brief. You turn a vague topic into a prompt with audience, purpose, and structure, and compare the decks each version produces.
- Choose outline or prompt. You decide when to paste in an outline you already have versus letting Gamma invent the structure, and see what changes.
- Reshape with cards. You split an overloaded card and merge two thin ones, the card equivalent of editing paragraphs.
- Revise with scoped AI edits. You rewrite one card's tone without touching its neighbors, and judge the point where AI edits start flattening your voice.
- Ship in the right format. You choose between presenting live, sharing as a webpage, and exporting to PowerPoint or PDF, and learn what each format drops.
Before you start
Is a Gamma deck a real presentation I can present?
Yes. You can present cards full screen like slides, share the deck as a live webpage, or export to PowerPoint and PDF. The webpage option is the one traditional tools cannot match: one link, always current.
Will everything I make look like every other Gamma deck?
Out of the box, somewhat: the default themes are recognizable. Custom themes, your own images, and rewriting the generated text in your voice fix that. The lesson treats generation as a draft, and drafts are meant to be edited.
Do I need a Gamma account to take this lesson?
No. The lesson runs inside this page with no signup and no download. Gamma has a free tier with AI credits for when you want to generate a deck of your own afterwards.
I make slides in PowerPoint. What actually changes?
The starting point and the layout burden. PowerPoint starts you at a blank slide and makes you the designer; Gamma starts you at a finished draft and adjusts layout as content changes. PowerPoint still wins for pixel-exact corporate templates; Gamma wins for reaching a presentable draft in minutes.
