Start frame, end frame, or neither?

Dream Machine will happily invent everything, but its keyframe controls let you pin down exactly where a shot begins and ends. How many frames you pin is the real creative decision.

Pin the endpoints

Supply a start frame, an end frame, or both, and the model animates between them. Two stills become a deliberate camera move or a controlled transformation.

Extend

Keep it going

Continue an existing clip with a fresh instruction, or loop it seamlessly. This is how a few seconds of generation becomes a shot long enough to actually use.

What you will do in the lesson

You answer and try things. Nobody demonstrates at you for five minutes.

  1. Describe motion, not a picture. You rewrite a static, adjective-heavy prompt around verbs and direction. Dream Machine is a motion model; feed it motion.
  2. Animate between two stills. Pick which of several image pairs will interpolate believably, then see the result. Endpoints that share composition give the model a path to follow.
  3. Extend without drifting. You write a continuation instruction that keeps the subject and lighting stable. Vague extensions are how a coffee ad turns into a dream sequence.
  4. Loop with intent. Judge which content loops cleanly, ambient motion does, one-way actions do not. Loops are quietly the most useful output for backgrounds and product pages.
  5. Work the Board. You organize variations side by side and decide what to change next. Iterating deliberately beats generating twenty hopeful rolls.

Before you start

What is Ray?

Luma's family of video models powering Dream Machine, with Ray2 as the current generation. Its reputation is motion quality: things move with weight and momentum instead of the floaty drift older models produced.

Do I need to install anything for this lesson?

Nothing. The lesson runs in the frame on this page, free and signup-free. Dream Machine itself is a website too, with a free way to try it.

Why are the clips so short?

Generations come out at a few seconds, like most video models today. Extend chains clips together, but the practical habit is planning in shots, not scenes, and cutting them together afterwards.

I already generate stills in Midjourney. Does that help here?

Enormously. Midjourney images make excellent Dream Machine keyframes: you art-direct the look in stills, then let Luma handle the motion between them. It is one of the most productive two-tool pipelines in AI video right now.
