Learn Recraft in 5 minutes.
Recraft is an image generator aimed at design work: it produces true vector output, editable SVGs, alongside raster images, with unusually strict style control. The lesson drills the vector versus raster decision, locking a style, and generating sets that match.

Vector, or raster?
Recraft's defining choice happens before you type a prompt: whether the output is pixels or paths. The two behave completely differently downstream, and picking wrong wastes the generation.
Real SVG output
Recraft generates genuine vector graphics: scalable, recolorable, editable in Illustrator or Figma. The right mode for logos, icons, and illustrations that must survive resizing.
Locked-in styles
Pick a built-in style or create your own from reference images, and every generation follows it. This is how you get twenty assets that look like one designer made them.
Consistent asset sets
Generate related assets, an icon family, an illustration series, under one style so they ship together. Consistency across a set is Recraft's edge over one-shot generators.
What you will do in the lesson
You answer and try things. Nobody demonstrates at you for five minutes.
- Choose the output type first. You decide vector or raster from the artifact's destination, a favicon is not a hero image, before writing any prompt.
- Generate an editable vector. You produce an SVG illustration and confirm what editable actually means: paths and fills, not a traced bitmap.
- Lock a style. You set one style and generate three different subjects under it, checking that they read as siblings.
- Build a custom style from references. You feed in a few reference images and turn a brand look into a reusable setting.
- Produce a matching set. You generate a small icon family and audit it for the inconsistencies that break design systems.
Before you start
What does true vector actually mean here?
Most generators output pixels even when the image looks flat and graphic. Recraft outputs paths, shapes, and fills you can open in Illustrator or Figma, recolor in one click, and scale to any size without blur.
Do I need design software installed for this lesson?
No. The lesson runs entirely in this page, free, and nothing needs installing. Recraft itself is browser-based too, and there is a free way to try it.
Is it only for professional designers?
No, and non-designers may benefit most: you get logos, icons, and illustrations that hold together stylistically without knowing design theory. Designers tend to use it differently, as a fast first pass they refine by hand.
I generate graphics in Midjourney already. Why Recraft?
Midjourney makes beautiful pictures of designs; Recraft makes design files. If you have ever tried to vectorize or recolor a Midjourney logo, you know the gap. Keep Midjourney for striking one-off art; use Recraft for assets entering a real design workflow.
