Learn Adobe Podcast in 5 minutes.

Adobe Podcast is a free web tool that makes a laptop mic recording sound close to a studio one. The lesson drills Enhance Speech and the strength slider that keeps it from overprocessing, plus Mic Check for catching problems before you record.

Fix it before, or fix it after?

Adobe Podcast has tools on both sides of the record button, and the order you use them in decides how much rescuing you end up doing.

Mic Check

Before you record

Mic Check listens to a few seconds of your voice and diagnoses gain, mic distance, echo, and background noise. Thirty seconds here prevents the problems Enhance would otherwise have to paper over.

Enhance

After you record

Enhance Speech rebuilds your voice without the room echo and background noise. Upload a file, wait, download. It is the feature that made the tool famous, and it works on recordings you had written off.

Strength

The slider that matters

Enhance at 100 percent can sound processed, with a hollow, artificial edge. Pulling the strength slider back mixes original room sound in and usually lands somewhere more human. Your ear makes this call, and the lesson trains it.

What you will do in the lesson

You answer and try things. Nobody demonstrates at you for five minutes.

  1. Diagnose a bad recording. You listen to short clips and name the problem: echo, hum, distance, or clipping. Each one has a different fix.
  2. Read a Mic Check result. You translate its feedback into physical action: move closer, drop the gain, soften the room.
  3. Judge Enhance output. You compare raw, full-strength, and moderate versions of a clip and pick the setting that sounds like a person in a good room.
  4. Spot overprocessing. You learn the artifacts, watery consonants and vanished breaths, that tell you the slider went too far.
  5. Build a repeatable chain. You order check, record, enhance, and listen into a routine you can run before every episode without thinking.

Before you start

Is Enhance Speech really free?

Yes, there is a free way to use it on the web, with limits on file length and hours per day. For occasional podcast or voiceover cleanup, the free allowance is usually enough.

Will it fix music, or only voices?

Only speech. The model rebuilds voices specifically, so music, singing, and sound effects come out wrong. Enhance the dialogue track on its own and mix music back in afterwards.

Do I have to install anything to take the lesson?

No install and no signup: the lesson runs inside this page. Adobe Podcast itself is also just a website, so nothing changes on your machine there either.

I already clean audio in Audacity. Why add this?

Audacity's noise reduction subtracts a noise profile you select; Enhance Speech regenerates the voice itself, which handles echo and messy, variable noise that subtraction cannot. Many people keep Audacity for editing and slot Adobe Podcast in as the cleanup pass.
