Your notes plus the transcript

Most note-takers replace you. Granola assumes you will still jot things during the call, then uses the transcript to fill in what you missed. The better your jots, the better the result.

No bot

Audio from your machine

Granola captures system audio, so nothing joins the call and nobody sees a recorder. That changes how comfortable people are, and what you should disclose.

Enhance

Jots become notes

During the call you type fragments. Afterwards, Granola expands each one using the transcript, so a three-word note becomes the actual decision and who owns it.

Templates

Shape by meeting type

A one-on-one, a customer call, and a standup want different notes. Templates decide the sections; the transcript fills them.

What you will do in the lesson

You answer and try things, step by step.

  1. Jot, do not transcribe. You practise the note style that works: three words per point, in the moment, no full sentences.
  2. Read an enhanced note. You compare your jots with what Granola expanded them into and mark anything it got wrong.
  3. Pick a template. You match three meeting types to templates and see what each one asks for.
  4. Pull an action item. You find the decisions and owners in a summary and turn them into a follow-up message.
  5. Ask the notes a question. You end by asking across past meetings, the way you would ask a colleague who was in all of them.

Before you start

Do I have to tell people I am recording?

Yes, in most places. No bot appears, so it is on you to say so. Granola makes that easy to forget, which is the reason to make it a habit.

Which meeting apps does it work with?

Any call that plays through your computer: Zoom, Meet, Teams, and in-person meetings with the microphone.

Is there a free plan?

There is a free tier with a limited number of meetings, then a subscription. Enough to run this lesson's habits on real calls.

Does it have an MCP?

Yes. Granola exposes your notes to agents through MCP, so a coding or writing agent can read the decisions from last week's meeting.
