PROJECT / heygen.schole

Learn HeyGen in one 5 minute cut.

HeyGen turns a script into a presenter-led video using AI avatars, no camera or studio required. You will practice directing an avatar's delivery, localizing a video with lip-synced translation, and deciding when an avatar is the wrong choice.

Ole is taking you through this one. Free, and it runs right here. No signup.

V2 · CONCEPTS

Stock, Instant, or translated you?

HeyGen is three products wearing one interface, and each answers a different question: who presents, whether that presenter is you, and in what language.

Avatar

Stock presenters

Ready-made avatars read your script in a voice and tone you choose. The fast path for product explainers and internal updates where the presenter's identity does not matter.

Instant

An avatar of you

Instant Avatar builds a digital version of you from a short recording you consent to. After that, a new video is a script edit, not a reshoot.

Translate

Same video, new language

Video translation re-voices existing footage in another language and syncs the lips to match. One recording becomes localized versions without anyone going back on camera.

V3 · SEQUENCE

What you will do in the lesson

Five clips, already on the track. You answer and try things. Nobody demonstrates at you for five minutes.

  1. Write for the ear. You rework a paragraph of written prose into something a presenter would actually say. Avatars expose stiff scripts mercilessly.
  2. Direct the delivery. Adjust voice, pacing, and pauses on the same script and compare the takes. Delivery choices move perceived quality more than avatar choice does.
  3. Choose avatar or camera. Given a set of messages, you decide which deserve a real human on camera and which an avatar serves fine. Apologies and layoffs are never avatar material.
  4. Evaluate a translation. You review a lip-synced translated clip and list what a native speaker should verify before it ships. Fluent-sounding is not the same as correct.
  5. Assemble the scene. Place the avatar against backgrounds, text overlays, and product shots. A talking head alone is a radio show with a face.

Drag or scroll the rail to see every clip.

A2 · NOTES

Before you start

Do avatar videos look obviously fake?

Under close scrutiny, sometimes. At the size and attention level of a training video or product update, good avatars pass easily, and script quality shapes the impression far more than rendering does.

Do I need to install anything for this lesson?

No. The lesson lives in this page and needs no account, no download, and no HeyGen subscription. HeyGen itself has a free way to try it later.

Can I make an avatar of someone else?

No. HeyGen requires identity verification and recorded consent to create an avatar of a person, so you can build one of yourself but not of your CEO without their participation.

How is HeyGen different from Synthesia?

They are the two big avatar platforms and overlap heavily. Synthesia leans toward enterprise training, with course-style workflows and admin controls; HeyGen leans toward marketing and creators, and its lip-synced video translation is a signature strength. Both have free ways to try them.
