The Five Minute Course
Learn Sudowrite in five minutes.
Sudowrite is an AI drafting partner built for fiction, with tools shaped around scenes, prose, and story structure rather than emails. You will practice continuing a scene with Write, deepening it with Describe, and keeping characters consistent through the Story Bible.

Draft, deepen, or plan?
Sudowrite splits novel work across different tools on purpose. Reaching for Write when the real problem is a flat description, or skipping the Story Bible on a long project, is how drafts go sideways.
Write
Continues your scene from the words before the cursor, in your style, with an auto mode and a guided mode where you steer the direction. A momentum tool for when you know where the scene goes but the sentences will not come.
Describe
Takes a noun or a moment and offers sensory detail across sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch, plus metaphor. You harvest the one or two senses that serve the scene and throw the rest away.
Story Bible
Your synopsis, characters, worldbuilding, and outline, stored where generation can draw on them. It is how chapter twelve remembers the eye color and the grudge you established in chapter two.
II. The practice
What you will do in the lesson
You answer and try things. Nobody demonstrates at you for five minutes.
- Continue a scene. You run Write on a paragraph of fiction and judge one thing above all: did the voice hold? Continuation that sounds like someone else is not help, it is intrusion.
- Reject and steer. You discard a continuation and regenerate with guidance about where the scene should go. Steering beats settling, and guided generation is where Sudowrite starts feeling like a collaborator.
- Describe one object. You aim Describe at a single object in the scene and read all five senses' worth of options. Then you keep two details at most; restraint is what separates atmosphere from inventory.
- Feed the Bible. You add a character trait to the Story Bible, generate again, and watch the trait surface in prose. Consistency stops being your memory's job.
- Mark the seams. You reread the assembled passage and mark where the AI prose shows through. Finding the seams is the revision skill, and revision is the part that stays entirely yours.
III. Notes
Before you start
Will Sudowrite write my novel for me?
No, and it is not really trying to. The tools supply momentum and texture at the sentence and scene level, while voice, structure, and meaning remain the author's job. The Story Bible helps a long project cohere, but coherence is not authorship.
Does it only suit certain genres?
Write and Describe work across genres because they operate on prose, not plot formulas. The Story Bible pays off most in long-form work with lots of continuity to track: fantasy, series fiction, anything with a large cast.
Do I need to install anything for this lesson?
No. The lesson runs right here in the page, no signup and no download. Sudowrite itself has a free way to try it when you want to bring your own manuscript.
I already draft fiction with ChatGPT. Why a dedicated tool?
Chat tends to drift toward safe, generic prose, and it forgets your world's details as the conversation grows. Sudowrite works at the sentence level where fiction lives, offers senses and steering instead of a text box, and carries continuity in the Story Bible. Purpose-built shows.
